What Do You Want ? Brainstorming -Giveaway

177-7761_IMG
Have you ever the old saying that a ‘watched kettle never boils’ ? Well that was how I’ve felt this week. I’m as sick as all of you with the ‘postal strikes’ and waiting for mail that never arrives.
I’d given up thinking about new yarns and then as if by magic the postman arrived with a box full of goodies for me. This beautiful yarn has come from Yarn Market. Despite the recent postal strikes in the UK this arrived swiftly and in perfect condition. This wool is Caledon Hills and is so snugly, soft and beautiful. I now have quite a dilemma – what will I do with it?
Caledon Hills comes in 72 different shades and two different weights chunky and worsted or double knitting for us in the UK.
Here are my colours :-)

Lavender

Meadow

Goldenrod

Golden Finch

Sweet Pea
So what will I create with it ? I have two embryonic ideas but am enjoying just looking at it and touching it at the moment. The texture is so heavenly. I love the ideas stage.
I want to create a couple of new patterns for all of you. So here is my proposal. Leave me a comment with your idea for a new knitting or crochet pattern and the most original idea/suggestion will win 100g of this lovely yarn. Please note that this is open to anyone worldwide not just the UK. I will create the design and publish it freely for you all to use. I will run this until the 31st October, 2009 and will notify the winner on that date.
Oh and just in case I haven’t nagged you all enough already, about this, please can you vote for my little blog in the Dorset Cereal awards. The Sunroom ‘Vote Here’ and Thank You

I'd love a knitted scarf with a wavy edge that falls into sort of ruffles on the cast on/off edges.

I'm thinking a long crocheted vest with the rounded yoke so it's easy to extend for the more ample body type, that I am... Love the colours you have chosen... B

i closed my eyes an what came to mind was little birds in each of the colors hanging from a mobile or a christmas tree.

I would love to see some of it made up into a easy to learn felted crochet bag that is small enough for a phone and wallet. Striped with these glorious colors with a long felted handle so us unexperienced felters can have a beautiful and useful easy project for our first try. Maybe a flower on it? See I am just brainsorming, too.

Fingerless crocheted gloves with leather palms for driving, especially in sweet pea. Maybe with a lavender stripe across the back .

I would love a great crochet pattern for a dickey. In case you are unfamiliar with that, it is an item of clothing that you pull on over your head. It has a foldover collar. And a front & back that comes down about 8" or so - to partially cover your chest & back. It is great to wear under your winter clothing for extra warmth!

I would like a hat (beanie) that at the top is goldenrod going down to golden finch then ending with meadow. Then use the lavender and the sweetpea for little flowers that are sewed on.

I think a knitted snood would be fab. They are very trendy just now so would be a great present for the youngers. I think Lavender and Meadow combo with perhaps some Sweetpea would be lovely.

Have just discovered your fantastic blog and great designs. I would love some sort of small bag that I could keep my Ipod in to carry around with me when wearing trousers with no pockets to keep it in.

I think a ballet wrap would be so adorable. I'm looking for a pattern and haven't found any. The wraps are cute and great to just wear around the house. So comfy too!

Sorry for the ridiculous delay. However the competition has now been judged and the winner is Kat and her idea for a dickey. I will create the pattern and Kat please can you email me your address so that I can send your wool.
Well done and congratulations. thesunroomuk@googlemail.com

I RECEIVED MY YARN!!! It is beautiful & soft -- and I just love the way it is twisted. That is its own creation. :-) Thank you so much, Aileen. What fun for me to receive 'Royal Mail'. I appreciate it a lot.
