Sunshine International Blankets of Love - SIBOL

Sue over at Sue's Favourite Things began a project at the beginning of the year to create blankets for the elderly. She asked if fellow crocheter’s might help in her project by contributing a square or two.

In Sue’s words:-
I hope you can help. If everyone could just send one square I would be most grateful. I know postage is expensive.
For those who would like information
6" x 6" - (15cms x 15cms)
Knitted or Crocheted
Acrylic I think would be better (if possible) don't worry if you haven't got Acrylic.
Any design, any colour. (Basic Granny Square or more involved up to you!)
Just odd bits of wool/yarn you have left over from projects. I don't want it to cost any one
money.
No panic, no rush, no deadline. This is something I want to be doing all year.
The project has gone on to be a real huge success but she still needs more squares. If you are able and willing to help please pop over to her blog.

Flower Granny Square

This is a pattern for a basic flower granny square and can be made to either a 5” square or a 6” square. There are numerous variations on this flower square and I will document them at a later date.
With appropriate yarn and recommended hook ch 5 join with a sl st to form a loop.
Rnd 1:
Ch 2 to count as first dc then work a further 11 dc into the loop, join with a sl st (12 sts)

Rnd 2:
Next ch 2, to count as 1st dc and work 2 dc into spaces between each dc in previous rnd. Join with sl st (24 sts)

Rnd 3: ch 2 , to count as 1st dc and work 2 dc into same space, work 3 dc into every 2nd dc space. Join with sl st. (36 sts)


Note: Darn ends in as you go.
Rnd 4: Join contrasting colour and ch 2 to count as 1st dc work 2 dc into 1st space, *sk 3 sts, work another 3 dc into next space, sk 3 sts, work 3 dc into next space ch 2 and work another 3 dc into same space (forming a corner)*, **rep until rnd is complete.
Fasten off for a 5” square or complete another rnd for a 6” square  


Here my flowers made into an afghan blanket.

Weaving 2 Complete

Here is another weaving I recently completed. It would be great as a table runner or a wall hanging. It came out really thick about an inch thick. Measures approx 10” x 24” 100% recycled fabrics.

Cathedral Window Crochet Motif

This motif could be used in many different ways such as a shawl, cushions or a scarf. Despite being highly decorative it’s really quite simple to make.
Use appropriate yarn and hook for your project.
Pattern:
Make 10 ch and join with a sl st to form a circle.
Rnd 1: ch 3, work 24 tr into the ring join with sl st
Rnd 2: ch 3, 1 tr into same st as sl st, *ch 2, sk next st, work 2 tr into next st*. **rep to end, join with sl st
Rnd 3: ch 3, 2 tr into same st as sl st, *ch 3, sk next space, work 3 tr in space between first 2tr*,  **rep to end, join with sl st
Rnd 4: ch 3, work 3 tr into same st as al st, *ch 4, sk next space, work 4tr in space between first & second tr*,  **rep to end, join with sl st
Rnd 5: ch 3, work 4 tr into same sp as sl st, * ch 5, skip next sp, work 5 tr in space between first & second tr*, **rep to end, join with sl st
Break off yarn motif is now complete.

Clootie Tree Update & New Ribbons

A massive thank you to Anjie at PomPomEmporium for sending fabulous 3 dimensional ribbons for The Clootie Tree. These are great and will add a new dimension to the tree. I had an email this week from a lovely lady in North Carolina USA this week and she and her daughter are going to crochet more ribbons making the Clootie tree truly communal and diverse.

This is a new pattern I was working on today which I will publish in the next few days photographed on top of a new ‘Bag for Life’ string bag I’ve just completed.

I have to say I like the back more than I like the front.

Weaving the Woven - WIP

I have been busy working on a hand woven wall hanging using purely recycled fabrics hence the name weaving the woven. This is a home made frame loom which is really easy and quick to make. I will post more photographs as soon as the hanging is complete.

A Week in Rugs

I’ve been busy, busy, busy making a variety of rag rugs and a weaving over the past week. I thought I’d just post some photos of my creations.

 

Wide Chunky Textured Rib Crochet Pattern

This pattern is relatively simple and yet very effective.The pattern an be used to make ribbing at the botom of jumpers, sewters etc. It could be used on cuffs or as a cushion too.
Note: Please be sure that you understand how to work into a front post and a back post in double or triple crochet before attempting the pattern. If you are not familiar with this also known as post-stitch ribbing then please click here for instructions and diagrams.
Materials:
Use any yarn and the appropriate recommended hook size. Here I worked on multiples of five + 2 ch to count as 1st dc. However it will work on any number of stitches. It is pictured here in dc but will work equally as well in tr.
Pattern:
Ch the desired amount to achieve width required + 2 (to count as first dc.
Row 1: dc into all ch
Row 2: ch 2 (to count as first dc) dc into next 4 sts, *fpdc into next 5 sts, dc into next 5 sts*, ** rep to end. 
Row 3: ch 2 (to count as first dc) dc into next 4 sts, *bpdc into next 5 sts, dc into next 5 sts*, ** rep to end.
Work the next two row continuosly until desired legth is reached.
I actually like the reverse side of the pattern as much as the front side, see below.
