Here is a fabulous maybe ‘crochet’ top that I found in a charity/thrift shop last week. I just had to buy it because it’s crochet right? Well take a good look at the pictures and let me know what you think. I can’t decide if it’s machine made or crochet. If it is crochet is there a machine that can crochet? It was my understanding that there wasn’t. Let me know what you think.

I LOVE it, whatever it is! It looks like crochet and Broomstick lace crochet too, doesn't it?.. VERY pretty, and wish I had the pattern for it! ~tina
looks like hairpin lace and crochet.
lovely top!

What a great find. I have often wondered if there is a machine that crochets, especially when you see lots of crochet tops in commercial shops
Hi,
My trained eye says it is actually hairpin lace and crochet. Looks really neat. The way the circle are really look like they would accentuate the wearer's curves. ~Chriss~
I know there are crochet machines that crochet lace and tapes but I am not sure it could make something like that... looks hand made...

Love it!
there are crochet machines that work with lace and make smaller things (i have a curtain in my bathroom with a lacy crochet border), but im not too sure about things like clothing. i imagine there would be crochet machines however, seeing as there are knitting machines.
There *are* machines that can crochet, but what they are able to do is very limited, and looks like a single crochet, and this on a blanket edge. You'll have to forgive my English. Anyway, there are knitting machines, but no crochet machines beyond that basic stitch. Which is great for us, in my opinion. :) Very nice blouse you have there.

you said it ... FABULOUS !!
I agree with the hairpin lace and crochet; I also don't think a machine made it. Lovely though...
Definitely handmade, definitely gorgeous-- what a find!
It looks like a well-thought-of design in crochet and perhaps hairpin lace. A really original top!
Look up crochet machines.
They are these huge bulky things, that are not for making a delicate item like that.
I will be happy if you could figure out that pattern and post it.
If you live close to me, I would help you do that.
You can follow up with an email if you want to.
That is how, patterns were shared, before the crochet books were printed.
As far as I know, there has not been a machine invented yet that can crochet the way a knitting machine can knit. That was one of the facts that got me into crocheting: basically everything you see that is crocheted means it's handmade (except for the little bits mentioned above). That's why I fell in love with this art...
In an old Workbasket, 1985, there was a pattern for a crochet machine called a "Crochet Cradle" and gave an address for Kaydee's Cabin, 12427 E. Penn St. Ste. B, Whittier CA. I tried Yahoo search but to no avail though I did find a Kaydee's shop or cabin, or something, but no other information. The color picture of the finished sweater is beautiful.Too bad, my fingers and hands are so bad from arthritis that it is hard for me.

its definitely hairpin lace crochet. Looks like two strips make up the sides, one maybe twice as long as the first strip with the rest filled in with a basic crochet lace. I saw a replica that looked even better than this. google image hairpin lace clothes and you'll find all kinds of cool stuff.
I agree. There has got to be a machine that crochet's, at least, a simple pattern. I am currently on the prowl for that machine...
wow! i love it! i haven't tried hairpin lae before but i may need to learn so i can make one of those!!! or i'll just crochet a spiral instead and go from there!
