SIZE: One Size
About 44 x 52 in. (112 cm x 132 cm), including edging
GAUGE:
One Square = about 8 x 8 in. (20.5 x 20.5 cm).
When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch
1. Afghan is made from 20 Squares: 4 each of Squares I and V, and 3 each of Squares II, III, IV and VI. Squares are sewn together following an Assembly Diagram.
2. Squares are worked in joined rnds with RS facing at all times. Do not turn at the beginning of rnds.
3. Each Square is worked using 2 colors. Color is changed at the end of every rnd.
4. To change color in joining sl st at the end of a rnd, work last st of rnd, drop old color and insert hook in first st of rnd. With new color, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook to complete sl st. Proceed with new color. Do not fasten off old color. Keep color not in use on WS of piece until next needed.
