Baby’s Ribbed Beret Crochet Pattern

Skill Level: Easy
Materials: 5mm hook, 25g of DK yarn, tapestry needle, crochet stitch marker.

Notes: In order to complete this pattern you must be able to complete fdpc – front post double crochet.  Work 1 front post double crochet (FP dc) around the post of the next double crochet.
Measurements: 16” (0-3mths)
Pattern:
Rnd 1: ch 2, work 9 dc into ring, join with sl st,
Rnd 2: ch 2, work fpdc around post of ch 2 of rnd below, *dc in and work fpdc around next dc (increase made). Repeat from * around, end with a sl st to top of ch 3: 20 sts, 10 dc and 10 fpdc
Rnd 3: ch 2, , dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc, * [dc in next dc], dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc. Repeat from * around, end with a sl st to top of ch 2: 30 sts.
Rnd 4: ch 2, dc in next dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc, *dc in each of next 2 dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc. Repeat from * around, end with a sl st to top of ch 2: 40 sts.
Rnd 5: ch 2, dc in next dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc, *dc in each of next 3 dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc. Repeat from * around, end with a sl st to top of ch 2: 50sts.
Rnd 6: ch 2, dc in next dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc, *dc in each of next 4 dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc. Repeat from * around, end with a sl st to top of ch 2: 60sts.
Decreasing
Rnd 7: ch 2, sk next dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc, *dc in each of next 3 dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc. Repeat from * around, end with a sl st to top of ch 2: 60sts.
Rnd 8: ch 2, sk next dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc, *dc in each of next 3 dc, dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc. Repeat from * around, end with a sl st to top of ch 2: 50sts
Rnd 9: ch 1, loosely sc into each st join with sl st fasten off yarn and darn all ends in.

Seafarers Charity Crochet Pattern

Here is a quick and easy pattern that can be used to crochet a hat in a very short time.
This hat is worked with chunky yarn.
Once again part of the Loving Hands winter challenge is to knit or crochet hats for seafarers.
Materials: Approx. 45g either DK double up for thickness or chunky yarn. 8mm crochet hook.
Pattern:
ch3, join together with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: ch 2, dc x 9 into the ring, join with sl st
Rnd 2: ch 2, dc into first st, dc twice into each of the remaining st ch, join with sl st
Rnd 3: ch 2, * 1 dc, 2 dc into next st*, Repeat to end, join with sl st
Rnd 4:  ch 2, * 1 dc, 2 dc into next st*, Repeat to end, join with sl st
Rnd 5: ch 2, 1 dc into each st, join with sl st.
Repeat Rnd 5 until desired length is reached. You can add additional rows if you want the hat to have a turn up. Here I did Rnd 4 five times.

This hat is worked in 2 strands of DK worked together for thickness.

This hat is worked in 1 strand dk and with a lot more rows.

Innocent Smoothies Hat Crochet Patterns 2009

It’s time to get knitting ‘crocheting’ to help older people stay healthy this winter. Dust off those knitting needles ‘crochet hooks’, find a ball of your favourite yarn and cast on ‘chain’ to help make this year’s Big Knit the biggest ever.

..It’s a sad fact that in the UK, 1 in 10 people over the age of 65 are malnourished. So when it’s nippy outside, it’s even more important for older people to look after themselves and make sure their bodies are in tip top shape.

We’ve joined forces with Sainsbury’s again this year to try to raise over £250,000 to support Age Concern and Help the Aged with healthy eating and healthy living projects during the winter months. And we need your help to knit ‘Crochet’ lots of little hats for our bottles.

Pattern 1 – La Beret

Materials:
3.5mm hook, small amount of DK yarn, darning needle.

Note: This hat is worked in the round.

Rnd 1: ch 20, join with sl st to form a circle.
Rnd 2: ch 1 *sc 1, dbsc x 2*, rep to end, sl st
Rnd 3: ch 1, sc to end, sl st
Rnd 4: ch 1, sc 2tog to end (dec. row) 
Rnd 5: ch 1 sc to end, sl st
Rnd 6: ch1, sc 2tog until 1st remains, bind off and darn in all ends.

Pattern 2 – Pumpkin

Materials:
3.5mm hook, bright orange wool DK, green wool DK, darning needle.

Note: This hat is worked flat and then sewn up.

Ch 25,
Row 1: trb into 4th chain from hook and trb to end
Row 2: ch 2, turn, hdc every 2nd st to end (decrease row). Fasten off orange yarn and join green
Row 3: ch 1, turn sc to end
Row 4: ch 1, turn sc into every alt st, (decrease row) fasten off, sew the hat up and darn in all ends.

Pattern 3 - Ladybird

Materials:
3.5mm hook, red & black DK yarn, darning needle.

Note: This hat is worked flat and then sewn up.

Ch 22
Row 1: ch 1 turn, hdc into every 3rd stitch to end
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, hdc into each 2d st to end
Row 3: As for row 2
Fasten off, sew the hat up and darn ends in. Embroider the ladybird’s spots etc.

Pattern 4 - Hat with Ear Flaps down or Deerstalker Ear Flaps up

Materials:
3.5mm hook, small quantity of baby yarn DK, darning needle.

Note: This hat is made in the round and the ear flaps are crocheted on.

Ch 3, sl st to form circle
Rnd 1: sc 4, sl st
Rnd 2: ch 1, dbsc in each st to end, sl st
Rnd 3: ch 1, dbsc in each st to end, sl st
Rnd 4: ch 1, dbsc in each st to end, sl st
Rnd 5: ch1, *sc, sc2tog* to end (dec. row) sl st
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc to end.

Ear Flaps
SC 5,
Turn ch 1, sc 4
Turn ch 1, sc 3
Turn ch 1, sc 2
Turn ch 1, sc 1 – Fasten off.

Sew all loose ends.

Pattern 5 - This Seasons ‘MUST HAVE’ Noro Silk Hat
(AKA Posh Hat)

Materials:
3.5mm hook, small quantity of Noro Silk Garden Yarn, darning needle.

Note: This hat is worked flat and then sewn up.

Ch 20 + 1
Row 1: Turn, *sc, ch1 , skip next st,* rep to end
Row 2: Turn, ch 1*sc underneath every 2nd st, ch 1* rep to end
Row 3: Turn, ch 1*sc underneath every 2nd st, ch 1* rep to end. Fasten off now if tail isn’t required.
Row 4: ch 6, turn SC into 2nd, 4th and6th St. Fasten off and sew up. Sew in all loose ends.

Abbreviations
ch – chain                    rep - repeat
Sl st – slip stitch               
rnd - round
sc – single crochet
dbsc – double single crochet
sc 2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
dec - decrease
trb - treble
hdc – half double crochet

Marmalade, Butterflies & Cloche Hats

Howdy Everyone,

Well here we are at the beginning of a new week. I hope you all had a relaxing and creative weekend. I have an overriding sense of busy, busy, business today. Does this mean I didn’t have a nice weekend or merely I didn’t have enough time to ‘create’ ? I’m not sure right now but hope to have it figured out by the end of the day.

Most of the weekend seemed to be taken up with the normal domesticity. Washing, cooking and cleaning. I did manage to make marmalade and need to write the recipe up today, I will put it on the blog as soon as I can. I have been vigorously planning and imagining new projects to tackle. My head is buzzing with a plethora of ideas and projects perhaps that‘s why I feel rushed and busy today.

I‘m dreaming about new fabrics, dyeing projects, more rag rug designs. I’m imagining some batik coming up, along with new designs and patterns to be attempted and then documented.

I’ve been working on hats this weekend - hence the mention of a cloche in the title. A crochet cloche hat that it not the stuff used in the garden. I’ve also been thinking about the, all too soon upon us, Christmas party season and have a clear idea of a new design for a crochet wrap, bolero, shrug type garment. I need a sparkly , silky or glitzy yarn for this and so it will need to go on the back boiler for a few days.

I’m also hoping to get a pattern written this week for crocheted butterflies. I made one on Friday but didn’t write it up, naughty me.

I’m also wanting to attempt to design some crocheted socks so watch this space for my first attempt. I also need to catch up and post more photographs on Flickr. I really need to start listing items for sale in my Folksy shop but it always seems to be a case of Mañana, naughty, naughty me. As you can see from my various buttons I’ve recently joined Ukhandmade which is a site worth exploring. I also stumbled across and joined fortheloveofcrochetalong, again a great international site for crochet junkies everywhere. I will be contributing to this site in the very near future, it’s on the TO DO list………………….. Need I say more ?

I have book marked quite a few sites that I need to go back to and see what’s out there.
